Project Title: Capacity-Building Program on Implementation Research for Technical Staff in PhilHealth Head Office: Local Evidence to Advanced Decisions (LEAD)

Funding Agency: DOST-PCHRD and Philippine Health Corporation

Duration: October 15, 2020-May 15, 2021

Role: Project Leader

With the enactment of the Universal Health Care Act, the demand for equitable access to health services has been systemically situated. However, a more pressing question parallel to this is “how do we access equitable access to healthcare?” Implementation Research becomes the forerunner in addressing this knowledge gap which directly impacts the quality of health interventions provided to the population. In general, this capacity-building program will benefit the Philippines’ healthcare system by creating a research-skilled set of technical staff working in the country’s leading healthcare insurance corporation. More specifically, the program can contribute by:

  1. Identifying the current Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, and Practices of the technical staff of PhilHealth-Head Office towards implementation research;
  2. Enhancing their capacity through modular and lecture-based learning processes on current trends, methods, and discourse in the application of Implementation Research;
  3. Equipping the participants with effective communication strategies for various stakeholders through the development of policy briefs and IEC materials; and
  4. Preparing the PhilHealth-Head Office to independently conduct future trainings through the production and documentation of learning modules and processes of the entire program.
