Klinika Tomas

After nearly 6 years of ethnographic work in Baseco, the need for a more equitable access to formal healthcare and resources has become a nagging concern for me as I see locals suffer from avoidable and treatable ailments just because they have no resources to buy medicines. This project has been my attempt to bring to the people who have shared with me their homes and meals a chance for better health. Through the support of JCI Manila and Charity for All Foundation, we have formally launched Klinika Tomas on February 2018.

The organization has decided to support the Klinika Tomas initiative through a financial subsidy which could cover for a year’s supply and operation. With me in the photo are our kasambotika, Cris and Anji, who received the new automatic BP monitor, their allowance, and medicine. (May 17 2018)

Our Klinika Tomas, a free medicine dispensary unit in the heart of Baseco Compound, will finally be launched tomorrow during our medical mission. With this unit in place, we hope to have a more sustainable and effective impact on the health-seeking behavior of the residents. Thank you to JCI Manila, students of the UST-Department of Sociology and our private donors. (February 17 2018)
