The Itlogan (egg retail store) that was set up through the seed grant from UST Simbahayan and Sociology Society is already having some ROI. The women leaders have been consistently restocking their supplies.
The bigasan (rice retail store) project started out in June 2021 with the honorarium I got from Ateneo for speaking in an event. I promised the community members that all income I generate from sharing their narratives will be given back to them to finance their projects. Today, the bigasan project continues.
Held the final dialogue on organizing a community based women’s group on September 4, 2019 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex. By the end of this year, we envision to have the first water faucet that will be shared by these women in their area.
August 21, 2019. Spent the day collaborating with the women of Baseco Compound on setting up a community organization that could help them articulate their needs and aspirations to agencies and other stakeholders. For the past 6 years, we have been providing them with immediate solutions to pressing problems (i.e. Water Wells, medical interventions, Klinika Tomas, toilet). However, we understand that without proper community organization, these interventions would remain as mere band-aid solutions. Today, we have taken a very brave step forward: we started to work towards the dream of having a samahan (organization) among the residents of Aplaya.
Thank you, Froilan A. Alipao, for the unwavering support you have given us from the 1st day that I spoke to you about our vision for Baseco.
Thank you to the Research Assistants who have always gone beyond their call of duty to help in this advocacy.
Thank you to Charities for All Foundation for supporting our work in Baseco.
As one of our participants said about this initiative, “parang totoo nang makakamit (attaining our goal seems feasible)”. Today is just full of hope and blessings.
Our core group of women from Block 1 of Baseco Compound visited UST to have our follow up meeting on organising a group to actualize their aspirations for their future and that of their children. At this point, it is just beautiful to see them enjoy their stroll in campus with the hope that a strong sustainable partnership is within reach. #engagedanthropology
Was visited today by the CEO/ Founder of Squeaky Clean Kids, Dr. Winston Pascual, who brought the organic soaps donated by Marie-Tess Fitzpatrick for distribution through the Klinika Tomas. Excited for our future collaborations with our women in Baseco.
